Goodbye Space Shuttle! Hello Paper Plane!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on March 27, 2008 by bullishmoves

Based on my posts so far it would seem that I am a very serious man… well I suppose I am a bit pensive. But no matter how serious I am about the news, the news can be the most hilarious thing.

Scientists aim for origami space flight. Yes folks, a paper plane shall go into space. That was the headline I saw in Yahoo! News. At first I thought this was such a loony idea. So did the scientist… at least initially. The article goes on to explain the scientific foundation of sending a paper plane into space.Paper Plane to Space

Surely, I thought, that this paper plane has no chance of getting back into earth as it would burn up upon entry. If a space shuttle can burn entering the Earth’s atmosphere, sure a paper plane will disintegrate faster than you can say Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

Apparently, I was wrong. According to the scientist who thought about it, if the entry of the paper plane is slow enough then maybe it will not get incinerated.

This is making me think… hard….making me recall all I could about physics…. I love it. Don’t you just love it when an article stimulates your brain so much you can’t sleep until you’ve figured it out. Yes, I AM A NERD! And proud of it. I am not saying however that the scientist is wrong. I bet he spent enough sleepless nights thinking about this. Nevertheless, you can only appreciate his work if you too could understand the workings of his idea. And having spent some time thinking, yes his idea is sound.

The heat during re-entry is caused by the speed in which gas compresses which is the effect of the mass and the speed in which the shuttle enters the Earth’s atmosphere. With a paper plane, mass is not that much of an issue and the speed in which it enters will be definitely slower than that of the shuttle. The paper plane becomes the perfect glider that the shuttle is supposed to be in the first place. With the slowness in which the paper plane enters the earth the heat caused by compression will hardly affect it.

In a simulation of the plane’s re-entry, the plane has survived with hardly any burns. I now look forward to the actual launch of the paper plane into space. I do not doubt it will be one significant event in scientific history.

US Economy going down the drain?

Posted in Thoughts with tags , , , , , , on March 17, 2008 by bullishmoves

In an attempt to save the US economy, interest rates were cut down Sunday allowing more loans to take place. For those who may not be in the know, when interest rates go down, more people are encouraged to borrow money which will stimulate consumer spending. Consumer spending allows for investments and consumption that will allow companies to function properly.

With the interest rate being cut down, this allowed the Federal Reserve to offer its service to Wall Street investors as the lender of last resort, in the hopes to stabilize the worsening credit crisis. This was done to salvage Bear Stearns from collapsing.

Apart from this, the dollar continues to devalue. Considering all factors, this should improve the economy. Although it may seem detrimental that the purchasing power of the dollar is less, greater foreign investment is expected to occur with the weakening of the dollar. The plummeting of oil prices as well has made petroleum based industries in a better position and finally the cutting down of interest rates is supposed to stimulate consumer spending to jumpstart the US economy.

So everything is being done to stabilize the economic situation. Why then do the market and the DOW continue to go down? What’s going on? Is it at all possible that the government is not telling the people the whole truth? Are they hiding something?

It would seem that apart from whatever it is that is said in the news there is a bigger and hidden factor that is causing the market to go down. This is not natural. I do not believe that the government is not as forthright as they should be regarding the credit crisis. I believe the amount of credit owed is more than what the government has declared and this is what is causing the economy to continuously go down.

I expect the market to crash on Monday next week despite all the efforts being exerted to save it. Let’s hope I am wrong.

Bullish Moves

Posted in Thoughts on March 11, 2008 by bullishmoves

After much cajoling, I have finally started my own blog. Of course, I was led to believe that I can write and that my engaging personality will project itself through your monitors. Yeah right!

Notwithstanding, I am here now.

So, as mentioned in my introduction I am into the stock market and this is the main reason why my blog is named Bullish Moves. Some people believe that the stock market is no different from gambling. Most brokers and analysts will say it’s a science.

For me the stock market is life, it is both science and gambling; it is the past and the future; it is what has been known and what is to come. As such, I perceive life the same way that I perceive the stock market and I engage in life the same way that I trade in the market. It may sound odd but hopefully, as you read my articles, you will be able to understand the comparison.

The blog was entitled Bullish Moves based on a stock market term. In the market, when the move is bullish that means that the trading prices are going up breaking through resistance. That is how I want my life to be, transcending all resistances in life in the hopes of achieving my maximum potential – thus the title Bullish Moves.

Hopefully, you will enjoy my articles the same way I hope to enjoy your articles and comments. Until then, ha det bra!
